After recalling his path of « school survivor » that he explained sociologically, his late discovery of sociology linked to a political commitment after May 1968 as well as his « on-the-job » training of sociologist, Gérard Mauger describes how his encounter with Pierre Bourdieu’s theoretical contribution in 1979 was decisive and structured his work of sociologist and ongoing projects.While stressing the minor place of youth sociology in the scientific hierarchy, he insists on the need to build this research matter with the support of other sociologies and underlines that this field of investigation has been enriched during the last years with the young researchers’contribution and openness to other disciplines.
