Al-Ghazzālī’s used to copy large extracts from the books of his predecessors. Thus, the Mi‘yār al-‘ilm fī fann al-manṭīq a guide of somewhat adapted Aristotelian logic for Muslim jurists and theologians, includes a large variety of Avicennian writings, such as Najāt, Ishārāt, Dānesh-Nāmeh and K. al-ḥudūd. But it also includes two Farabian works, i.e., al-Qiyās al-ṣaghīr and al-Maqūlāt. As far as we know, this is the first and only time that al-Ghazzālī combines in such a way parts taken from these two major Arabic philosophers.
