This article presents a research project by the Laboratoire Pédagogie Didactique Société et Discours (LaPDSoDi) on the ancient manuscripts of Timbuktu, launched in 2021 to collect metadata and create a linguistic sub-corpus. The problem is to explore how linguistic mediation between Arabic and Southern Berber (Tuareg) in manuscripts, in particular an extract from Risala, influences the understanding and teaching of legal and cultural texts in Tuareg Koranic schools. The hypothesis is that this mediation facilitates the translation and transmission of cultural and religious knowledge. The interdisciplinary approach adopted includes comparative linguistics, translatology, linguistic anthropology, philology and sociolinguistic and cultural studies. The work is divided into three sections: history of Koranic schools, presentation of the corpus of data, and data analysis.
