The article investigates the individual involvement of the Danish women’s rights and peace activist Bodil Begtrup in the League of Nations, 1926-38. It shows how Begtrup entered the League of Nations from a platform of student activism and made a central personal connection in Geneva to the representative of the Danish Council of Women (DNCW) to the Danish delegation to the League. Based on this personal connection Begtrup became involved in the DNCW and the International Council of Women and came to form part of the international women’s advocacy network and eventually the DNCW representative to the Danish delegation. The article also shows how Begtrup developed an experience with and knowledge of the structures and procedures of international organization on which she could draw when she came to be involved in the UN after 1945. Finally, it shows that Scandinavian women cooperated in the League. However, the international women’s network was truly international and the Scandinavian dimension of international women’s cooperation appears less apparent compared to the degree of Scandinavian political cooperation both before and after 1945.

Cet article étudie l’engagement de Bodil Begtrup, militante du droit des femmes et de la paix, au sein de la Société des Nations entre 1926 et 1938. Il montre d’abord comment B. Bergtrup est entrée dans cette organisation sur la base d’un programme élaboré par des militants étudiants et a eu un rôle central de liaison à Genève en tant que représentante du Conseil national danois des femmes (CNDF) auprès de la Délégation danoise de la SDN. Grâce à ses liens personnels, en effet, B. Begtrup s’est retrouvée impliquée dans le CNDF et dans le Conseil international des femmes, devenant ainsi partie prenante d’un réseau international féministe puis, pour finir, représentante du CNDF auprès de la délégation danoise. L’article indique aussi comment B. Bergtrup a développé son expérience et sa connaissance des structures et des procédures de l’organisation internationale, ce qui lui a permis après 1945 d’œuvrer au sein de l’ONU. Enfin, cette contribution souligne la solidarité féminine au sein de la Société des Nations. Néanmoins, en dépit de l’internationalisme avéré du réseau féministe, l’importance du rôle joué par les femmes scandinaves en matière de coopération internationale semble beaucoup moins mis en lumière que celui de la coopération internordique avant et après 1945.
