A recently discovered document offers the opportunity to reconsider the arguments about the provenance of two bronze fragments believed to belong to a single statue–the Chatsworth head in the British Museum, and a leg in the Louvre–mentioned only in André de Ridder's catalogue. Analysis undertaken in collaboration between the Centre de Recherche et de Restauration des Musées de France and the British Museum places the statue in the context of Tamassos and more generally of Cypriot sculpture of the fifth century BC, which we now know better. Following this study, the association of the pieces, and their dating to the fifth and not the first century BC, seem certain.
