Myrrha’s Traumatic Guilt: A Melancholic Version of the Oedipal Drama?

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : While the tragedy of Oedipus tells the dramatic, inevitable, and unconscious progression toward incest, the myth of Myrrha, whose story is told by Ovid in Metamorphoses, can be understood as another version of the Oedipal drama: a version where the focus is on the traumatic guilt that follows the crime of incest. Using a clinical history, this article illustrates what might be called a “melancholic shift” from the Oedipal drama to adolescence, when the defense system is overwhelmed by puberty, which becomes potentially traumatic.
