This article examines the author’s work as a facilitator of clinical professional practice analysis groups with regard to the respective concepts of countertransference and counter-attitudes and, more broadly, the concept of “field” within a group space and its transformations. The basic proximity between the mechanism proposed by the author and that devised by Michael Balint for helping professionals develop their countertransference is emphasized in the sense in which the author described it. It is then shown how this mechanism can be considered as a clinical device as defined by René Roussillon and can be described as a mediated device. Finally, some of this mechanism’s specificities are discussed in relation to the psychic position of the facilitator during the session, with particular reference to the reflections of Sophie de Mijolla, Michel de M’Uzan, and Antonino Ferro.
