Our investigation bears upon the nature of the risk involved in sports competitions. Because desire is at stake and satisfaction is possible, risks necessarily emerge. The first one, highly specular, concerns the imaginary fear of a narcissistic damage in case of defeat. A second one relates to the symbolic and concerns the essence of the subject and the injuries that language inflicts on them. Then it becomes evident that victory, even more than defeat, is a risk; a risk of not failing, and a risk of identity shift.
