Recommendation in Babel: Recommendation and the digitization of cultural heritage

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2014. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The quantity of digital versions of cultural heritage documents now available online has almost made the dream of a Library of Babel come true, and highlights the need for recommendation. Recommendation may come from those leading the way in the digitization of cultural heritage or from their users. In order to recommend content, research libraries must first identify what needs to be digitized, and then what needs to be highlighted. Digital research libraries recommend heritage content on their own websites, on blogs, and on social networks. They communicate with the same tools as their users, who have now become recommenders: they complement and re-evaluate the digitization policies of the leading cultural heritage authorities. Traditional boundaries are blurring, and heritage recommendation is akin to a collaborative horizontal process that is redefining the role of research libraries and changing researcher practices.
