Gérard Genette’s research on the “transtextual relations” of literary works invites us to consider texts as woven into a network of other texts, with which they form different relationships. A media object also has links with texts that surround it and cross it, playing a part in its reception and interpretation. Through the analysis of a documentary, 13 novembre: Fluctuat Nec Mergitur, about the 2015 Paris attacks, this article considers the various texts that contextualize and establish its content. As the documentary aims at offering a rewriting of the world, the texts that accompany a film play a unique role in the position of a particular narrative in relation to history and in the remembrance of a traumatic event.
