Some forgotten aspects of scientific patrimonialization through the attributions of researchers’ names

Patrimonializing the figures of researchers by attributing their names to “places” (institutions, buildings, premises) reflects an attempt to make them escape the wear and tear of time and to make them circulate through time. However, any circulation is a movement that leads to transformations, especially in the representations of researchers. In the medium and long term, traces (memorial plaques, stelae, etc.) that have not been revitalized may disappear, become erased, or simply no longer make sense to the audiences that frequent these places. This is especially so since the figures of researchers can be used as tools, particularly for signage and/or institutional communication.
