The “desire of the psychoanalyst” and their acting out

Any clinical psychologist, and therefore any psychoanalyst, may one day be confronted with the appearance of love or desire—or both—in their relationship with the person coming to them for consultation. Actually resorting to performing a sexual act is an occupational hazard, whatever their theoretical orientation might be. The consequences are usually harmful; but it is difficult to have much knowledge of the subject because sexual intercourse with a person undergoing treatment is still subject to a certain taboo. The author addresses the issue based on evidence gathered among analysands, and from a particular angle: the ethics of psychoanalysis developed by Jacques Lacan.
