The authors of this paper base their findings on clinical research of a psychoanalytical leaning in the hospital environment as a means of exploring the traces left on ensuing pregnancies by the loss of a child in the wake of a therapeutic termination of pregnancy. A study of feelings of guilt and shame in this light provide meaningful semiological and psychopathological pointers within the framework of the primary and secondary prevention of problems encountered in becoming and being a parent, and of relational dysfunctions in early infanthood.
