The possibility of using topical reorganisation to turn what might have been a passively endured trauma into a moment of pleasure is the definition of the very essence of sublimation. Sublimation, in that it uses the same mechanisms as those used in humour, thereby not only extends its timeframe but also produces an object that the subject may present as representing him or herself and with which he or she enjoys a very special relationship. Allother relationships may, when the need arises, be obliged to undergo a mediation process through which they share in this object.
