This article reflects on the two-fold dimension of the body and the work it accomplishes within the framework of the analytical cure as defined by Freud, and this from a voluntarily philosophical viewpoint. At first sight the patient’s body seems immobile, never moving or gesturing. But does this necessarily mean that their body is not at work? The question of work within the social framework is also explored, as the return to some sort of professional activity is often an important stake in an analytical cure. Why and how does the work accomplished by bodily drives, as a cornerstone of analysis and a fundamental element of its practical set-up, enable the patient to return to work or recreate meaningful links with the world of work?
