The author of this article, in her role as a clinical psychologistwithin a medical-psychological-surgical unit caring for womenwho have endured excision and are in a state of extreme distress,puts forward hypotheses concerning the collective care whichcould be offered to patients in such states of suffering. A numberof clinical examples shed light on the processes of symbolicreconstruction carried out by a pluridisciplinary team.
