The contribution of art-therapy to oncology

What is art therapy and what is it useful for? For whom is it intended and what are its therapeutic applications? Michèle Fernandez-Henocque proposes a theoretical perspective on these questions through a reflection that places the creative experience at the heart of the caregiver/patient relationship. The creative process places patients back at the center of their own life story. This helps them pursue their personal evolution by regaining control over their life forces. A feasible path of transformation may then open up, which alleviates some suffering and reinforces their sense of humanity. The clinical section written by Sophie Geider illustrates this analysis by allowing the reader to share her encounters with Annette and Pierre, both cancer patients. How can the art therapist help the subject regain an acceptable place for themselves by reviving their desire?
