A historical perspective on the concept of gender identity, rootedin the theoretical studies of J. Money, R. Stoller and C. Chiland,provides us with the means of understanding the complexity ofthis notion as a key factor in the development of Narcissism andconstruction of the subject. A clinical case illustrates the author’shypothesis on the performativity of individual experience (and itsreception by contemporary medical practice) and how this mayparticipate in producing constructs of the subject by the subject.
