Contrary to the French criminal doctrine, the Criminal Chamber of the Court of cassation has never shown any particular interest in the concepts of general intent and specific intent. However, a judgment handed down on March 11, 2025 requires a reassessment of this observation, as it expressly uses the concept of specific intent. It is not certain that this judicial usage is relevant: On closer inspection, the opposition between general intent and specific intent contributes nothing to the theory of criminal intent.
