Denial in the case of incest between brother and sister – a psychopathology of family bonds

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2025. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Incest remains a difficult subject to address for society, the media and, above all, the family. How are bonds forged in incestuous families and between siblings? Why do parents remain in denial? This article seeks to shed light on the denial that sets in within the incestuous family, encompassing the victim and those close to her. Through a case study, it proposes to analyse the intra-family dynamics governing incest. The incestuous family imposes a silence that settles in between its members in the absence of the forbidden, creating confusion in the places and roles of each individual. Denial often persists and is shared within the family group, even when silence is broken. Finally, denial sets in to replace traumatic forgetfulness and repression of the facts. It seeks to maintain this “pathological” family bond, which inflicts suffering on the family and distorts its members’ relationship with reality.
