From Morocco to Huelva, the “strawberry ladies”

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2025. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article analyzes the work of Moroccan seasonal workers (“strawberry ladies”) employed in strawberry greenhouses in the province of Huelva. Recruited in Morocco on temporary contracts, they are part of a circular migration model designed to meet labour needs while combating illegal immigration. This intensive agriculture requires excessive water consumption and the use of chemical products. The Huelva region is also characterised by the presence of petrochemical industries located close to greenhouses and protected sites. This raises questions about the long-term viability of this agricultural model, its ecological impact and the consequences for the health of migrant women.
