Alcohol is the most dangerous substance of addiction during pregnancy. Heavy or moderate prenatal exposure can lead to various clinical features with dysmorphic facial anomalies, birth defects, growth retardation and long term cognitive deficits.Literature review is presented about the pathogenesis of fetal damages and dose-response effects of prenatal alcohol exposure. There is no known safe amount of alcohol consumption during pregnancy. Incidence, clinical features and long term prognosis are exposed as well as prevention and intervention strategies.
