Does Gender Equality Foster an Affinity with Parenthood?

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2025. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article explores the relationship between gender equality and perceptions of parenthood across Europe. It offers an original typology of gender regimes based on both professional and domestic inequalities, identifying three groups: “dual emancipation,” “unfinished revolution,” and “separate spheres.” The findings reveal that parental pessimism is strongest in countries characterized by an “unfinished revolution,” such as France, where women continue to bear the burden of the “double day.” In contrast, Nordic countries, marked by advanced gender equality, tend to combine egalitarian gender relations with more positive representations of parenthood. The study further examines the influence of family policies on these perceptions.
