Vicissitudes of Aggression in the Separation-Individual Process and in Attachment

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2005. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : How does aggression impact separation-individuation and attachment? The principle of “complementary and reciprocal influence” among those biological and experiential factors that make up the fabric of psychic life directs us to look for reciprocal influences between the structuring of self, object, and their relationship on the one hand, and of aggression on the other. My task then is to look into how aggression impacts on separation-individuation and attachment and, reciprocally, how attachment and separation-individuation processes forge the development of aggression. The venue that best suits my addressing this reciprocity is to look at it developmentally.Separation-individuation provides us with an observably supportable phasic developmental model, which I shall borrow to attend to a parallel development in attachment. But when we speak of the development of aggression, what do we have in mind? I assume that aggression has a developmental line that is biologically programmed and forged by experience. I shall briefly look at the nature of aggression, its start, and factors that determine its course in development. Having addressed this issue, I will then proceed to detail some key reciprocal developmental and dynamic influences that come from the vicissitudes of aggression on the one hand, and from separation-individuation and attachment on the other.
