Home medical care as here related is considered to provide home psychotherapy for the patient, this being most often dispensed to psychotic patients. The difficulty lies in sticking to a framework that remains psychoanalytically inspired within a trivial context where the concrete has to be approached per se and as a transfer object. Cotherapy must be a matter of principle, as with supervision. Consideration for the family, where there is one, has led to the term “familial psychiatry” being used, much as we would talk about the family doctor; however, this never concerns a familial therapy under the strict meaning of the term. This practice has well nigh disappeared in France, although legally permitted and still present here and there.
