When creative professionals contest crowdsourcing: A netnographic approach

With the advent of crowdsourcing, many organizations now use the crowd’s resources and skills. The use of crowdsourcing offers many advantages for an organization. However, there has been criticism of the “dark side” of crowdsourcing, particularly from creative professionals who view it as the “gangrene” of their profession. Using a netnographic approach, this research explores the reasons why some creative professionals are opposed to crowdsourcing. We make a number of recommendations about how platforms can respond to such criticism.
