Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Mucositis, mouth ulcers, candidiasis, xerostomia, and changes in taste are common acute side effects associated with radiotherapy for head and neck cancers. These side effects can lead to significant physical, psychological, social, and financial consequences for patients. Therefore, a multidisciplinary approach is crucial throughout and after treatment. The skills of the advanced practice nurse (APN) in clinical care, interpersonal relations, research, coordination, and education can play a key role in improving the management of acute radio-induced side effects in the oral cavity. This article provides an overview of the diagnosis and consequences of these side effects, as well as their management. It highlights the added value of close collaboration between the radiation oncologist and the APN. Although this collaboration is still rare in France within radiotherapy services, it represents a significant asset in supporting patients being treated for head and neck cancer.
