Imagining and experiencing war: the role of fiction

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2025. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : The Red Team Défense has introduced a new way of envisioning the future in the French Ministry of the Armed Forces through the creation of science-fiction stories. These stories, imagined and written by authors, are a means of conceiving and acquiring information about potential future environments (imaginary but plausible) in order to reflect on them. This innovative experiment within the ministry, which ended in 2023, is far from unprecedented. After discussing how the armed forces are consumers of science-fiction, this article provides an overview of how this literary genre is used by different types of actors in the defence sector around the world. This preliminary exploration makes it possible to define lessons that can be drawn from the Red Team Defence study to enrich the knowledge available on this rapidly growing practice of mobilizing the use of science-fiction within the armed forces.
