Emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), the metaverse, big data analytics, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT), are identified as key drivers of digital transformation, providing new opportunities for interaction between companies, consumers, and institutions, while fostering an open approach to innovation. In this special issue, the authors explore the profound impact of digital transformation on industries, organizations, and society, emphasizing how it reshapes business models, consumer behavior, and competitive dynamics. Digital transformation raises many issues: How smart city initiatives can scale, focusing on governance and stakeholder engagement.
