Charles Fourier was an autodidact and a precursor of socialism. He claimed not to have been influenced by anyone. His work is a curious mixture of rational analysis of psychological and social phenomena and delusional comments about the past and the future of the world. He presents a theory of personality based on a variety of motivations, and he develops considerations on the interpersonal dynamics induced by these motivations. We examine the scope of this work.
