Labour Market Participation and Use of Paid Child Care: Evidence from Luxembourg on the Role of Proximity and Cost of Child Care Services
Type de matériel :
57
We analyse the role of the proximity and cost of child care services in mothers’ employment and child care use. We take into account the full range of child care services (nurseries and child minders), their proximity to the family home and their potential cost. Our main results show that the local availability of services does not influence mothers’ participation in the labour market or their use of paid child care. But when child care services located beyond a given distance (estimated in the paper) are disregarded, availability has a positive effect on the use of paid child care, while remaining without effect on labour market participation.
