Elmo and Paro®, why one works and the other doesn’t, and what change this makes

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2017. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : A new industrial revolution has begun that we could not escape from. New ways of organizing work have appeared on the scene, as well as new actors, including robots, who do not just compete with human workers but also, albeit less visibly so, compete fiercely with animal workers. In industry 4.0 and our digitized world, domestic animals have become obsolete. They are replaced by plant substitutes or in vitro meat in our food, and driven out by robots in homes, retirement homes and hospitals. Described as kind partners, caring and efficient, robots are supposed to work in lieu of animals. But robots do not work. They function. Work makes use of subjectivity and inter-subjectivity of humans-animals relations. Work makes use of animal intelligence and their involvement in a shared project, built together with humans. This is what research carried out under the ANR COW program has revealed, as presented in this special report.
