In line with research on testimonials in the public sphere produced by people with ill-health and on micro-blogging practices on social media platforms, we analyze the Instagram accounts of three people with melanoma. Using both a socio-discursive and semio-discursive approach, this study shows how social media users develop the capacity to create narratives about their experience of cancer; how they build networks that participate in publicizing their narratives; and how they integrate their narratives into market-based media logics which validate the universal dimension of content.
