La médiation est un nouveau métier de l’intervention sociale basé sur la communication éthique et la neutralité d’un tiers, intermédiaire entre deux personnes en conflit ou entre une personne et une institution. L’article analyse une pratique de médiation sportive réalisée auprès de jeunes fréquentant un terrain de football situé en milieu défavorisé à Schiltigheim. Le médiateur sportif œuvre pour la prévention et la gestion de conflits intergroupes sur ce terrain de football. Il entraîne et oriente des 16-25 ans vers des clubs. Cette médiation contribue à une logique d’intégration sociale.

Mediation is a new social intervention profession based on ethical communication and the neutrality of a third party who mediates between people in conflict, or between a person and an institution. This article analyzes a sports mediation practice among young people hanging out at a soccer pitch in a disadvantaged area in Schiltigheim. The sports mediator works to prevent and manage inter-group conflicts. He coaches young people aged 16-25 and directs them toward soccer clubs, thus promoting their integration through sport. This mediation sits within a logic of social integration.
