The concept of culture has become the subject of increasing attention in the field of intelligence studies. However, its substance is amorphous and defies solid empirical experimentation. Yet, its relationship to and impact on intelligence as a human activity is generally assumed and essentialized. In this article, the author analyzes the various ways culture has been conceptualized, and from that analysis and the extant literature on culture and intelligence suggests a more deductive and comparative approach to researching how culture and intelligence interreact. In doing so, it encourages researchers to delve deeper into other academic disciplines and seeks to move the research agenda forward.
