RésuméDans cet article, nous présentons un projet de recherche pour un gouvernement local chinois, qui consistait pour nous à apporter une approche sociologique, concernant le développement de services et infrastructures pour personnes âgées. L'acceptation d'une approche sociologique, bien accueillie au départ, s'est avec l'évolution du projet transformée en tentative d'expulsion du projet, laisser faire, puis mise sous silence des conclusions de notre recherche. Toutefois, quelques interlocuteurs conciliants ont permis à certaines de nos idées d'être, finalement utilisées. En analysant notre travail sur ce projet, nous montrons les difficultés du travail sociologique en milieu autoritaire chinois, tout en expliquant qu'il est possible de conserver une approche critique.

In this article, we present a research project done for a Chinese local government, which consisted in providing a sociological approach for the development of services and infrastructures for the elderly. The acceptance of a sociological approach, well received at the beginning, transformed in attempts to eject us from the project, let us do as we wished, while finally using practically none of the conclusions of the sociological approach. However, some official interlocutors allowed some of our ideas to be, in the end, used. By analyzing our work on this project, we show the difficulties of sociological work in a Chinese authoritarian environment, while explaining that it is possible to hold a critical approach in spite of everything.
