Christoph-Thomas Walliser (1568-1648), composer, theorist, pedagogue, cantor, exercised many activities in the Gymnasium Schola argentinensis, later Academy (University) as a musicarius ordinarius and a praeceptor octavis classis ; at the Cathedral (at that time protestant) as a figural cantor ; in the St Thomas Church as a vicarius altarius, in Strasbourg, by that time a “free city from the Holy Roman Empire”. His contribution to music in the wake of the Reformation concerns functional Hymns, Psalms and Lutheran Chorals, in the vernacular (instead of latin). His contribution to music theory influenced by Humanism is exposed in his treatise entitled : Musicae Figuralis Praecepta Brevia…, where he favours more the examples than the concepts. His contribution to humanist and school theatre according to the ideas of Martin Luther and Martin Bucer – the reformator of Strasbourg – strongly encouraged by the rector Jean Sturm, has allowed him to work in close collaboration with Caspar Brülow, among others. He realised the Chori musici at the end of the five acts in Andromeda (exemplified here), Elias, Chariclia, Nebucadnezar, Caius Julius Caesar and Moses in the perspective of the return to Greco-Latin Antiquity.

Christoph-Thomas Walliser, Komponist, Theoretiker, Pädagoge, Kantor wirkte an mehreren Stätten in Straßburg : am Gymnasium ( schola argentinensis, später Akademie bzw. Universität) als musicarius ordinarius und praeceptor octavis classis, später am damals evangelischen Münster als figural cantor, schließlich als vicarius altarius in der Thomaskirche. Sein Beitrag zur religiösen Musik im Rahmen der Reformation umfasst funktionale Kirchengesänge, Psalmen und Choräle in der Volkssprache. Seine Anteilnahme an der musikalischen Theorie im vom Humanismus beeinflussten Traktat Musicae Figuralis Praecepta Brevia… orientiert sich mehr an konkreten Beispielen als an begrifflichen Diskussionen. Seine Mitwirkung am Leben des lokalen Schultheaters steht im Fahrwasser der Reformatoren der ersten Generation, in Straßburg selbst stand er Martin Bucer und Johannes Sturm nahe, die seine Aktivität unterstützten. Chori musici hat er für Caspar Brülows Bühnentexte komponiert, so am Schluss der fünfaktigen Tragödie Andromeda, die in diesem Aufsatz untersucht werden. Walliser ging es recht humanistisch um die Wiederbelebung der Antike, wie man sie damals verstand. Vergleichbares ließe sich über die Chöre von Elias, Chariclia, Nebucadnezar, Caesar und Moses sagen.
