The present research had two objectives. The first was to construct and validate two French-language questionnaires for measuring child anxiety and parental anxiety. The second goal was to test, via a path analysis model, the hypothesis that parental school anxiety and child school anxiety are intervening variables between family socio-economic status and children’s academic performance. Our model also allowed us to test possible links between parental school anxiety and child school anxiety. Results of a validation study involving a sample of 167 parents and their fourth and fifth grade children showed that the questionnaires have good psychometric qualities and good structural and convergent validities. Our model gave satisfactory goodness of fit indices and explained a large proportion of the variance in the children’s academic performance. We found significant links between parental anxiety and their children’s anxiety and between a child’s anxiety and academic performance.
