La récente reconstitution critique du Texte Occidental (TO) des Actes des Apôtres est étonnamment cohérente, vu l’état fragmentaire des manuscrits. Comparé au Texte Alexandrin (TA) qui fait aujourd’hui référence, le TO se révèle antérieur. Il est aussi plus cohérent avec le troisième évangile et relève du même auteur principal, traditionnellement saint Luc. Le TO maintient que l’Israël endurci reste élu, dans une relation ouverte avec l’Église, car destiné à recevoir un jour l’Évangile. Le TA est une révision du TO, et vise au rejet d’Israël par Dieu, ainsi qu’à la rupture avec l’Église. Mais le TA reste ambivalent à cause des traces qu’il garde du TO. Deux intentions théologiques opposées gouvernent ainsi deux visions de l’avenir et du retour glorieux du Christ.

The recent critical reconstruction of the Western Text (TO) of the Acts of the Apostles is astonishingly coherent given the fragmentary state of the manuscripts. Compared to the Alexandrian Text (TA), which is the current authoritative text, the TO shows itself to be earlier. It is also more consistent with the Third Gospel, St. Luke’s, and comes from the same main author. The TO maintains that Israel which remains hardered to the Gospel is however still chosen by God and not cut off from the Church, being destined one day to accept the Gospel. The TA is a revision of the TO and aims to affirm God’s rejection of Israel and its break with the Church. But the TA remains ambivalent due to the common elements which it preserves from the TO. Thus, two opposite theological views govern two visions of the future and of the glorious return of the Christ.
