La Loi de Moïse entretient un rapport marqué avec l’écriture, dans la tradition biblique comme dans les cultures environnantes. Dans l’Évangile de Jean, la loi nouvelle du Christ apparaît aussi liée à l’écriture, comme en témoigne l’épisode de la femme adultère en Jn 8 ; cependant, comme une écriture dont le contenu n’est pas saisissable. Serait-ce là un caractère de la loi nouvelle du Christ ? Il convient d’examiner les passages relatifs au commandement nouveau aux chapitres 13 et 15, pour pouvoir interpréter théologiquement ce fait.

The Law of Moses maintains a pronounced relationship with scripture, in the biblical tradition as in the surrounding cultures. In the Gospel of John, the new law of Christ also appears to be tied to scripture, as the episode of the woman taken in adultery in John 8 attests; however, as a scripture whose content cannot be grasped. Would this be a characteristic of the new law of Christ? It is advisable to examine the passages relating to the new commandment in chapters 13 and 15 in order to be able to interpret this fact theologically.
