Current scientific approaches to NDE place a great deal of emphasis on neuroscience, and suggest that their causes lie in brain function and dysfunction. This article reaffirms that NDEs, as human phenomena, have a psychic causality, because they are above all the reaction of a subjectivity to an encounter with its possible destruction or dissolution. The clinic of trauma serves as a tool to demonstrate this thesis.
