Labor productivity increases with urban size. Moreover, this correlation rises with the size of the real labor market (i.e., workers living less than y minutes from jobs on offer). Hence two solutions present themselves: raising the speed of public transportation, and building high-rises. However, the first solution facilitates urban sprawl, while the second costs more than urbanization through single-family houses.
