Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Few studies have examined how the age of a firm can influence its economic and financial performance over time, especially in Africa. This study fills this gap by examining this question based on a single sample of companies listed on four African financial markets (Botswana, Ghana, Zambia, and Zimbabwe) over the 2008–2017 period. We find that the age of a firm and its performance follow a U-shaped curve, suggesting a nonlinear differential effect. Our results are consistent with the hypothesis of learning by action and age-related handicaps.
