This paper focuses on rites of passage in the entrepreneurial process. It contributes to creative entrepreneurship studies exploring Turner’s concept of liminality. We study the professional transitions of twenty entrepreneurs in France who have received support from four business incubators. The paper asks how rituals facilitate professional transition to entrepreneurship, in liminal spaces. The analysis shows that rituals help the entrepreneur to cross boundaries of space and time by marking their journey. They help them to change social position, experience new relationships, and acquire legitimacy, while facilitating their inclusion. But rituals may also lead to a loss of markers, marginalization, or exclusion. The results question and expand the notion of entrepreneurship and support.
