Based on my research experience as a social worker and activist, I develop the idea that to make a better profit on social work, the state and “social entrepreneurs” must first transform it into a factory that is easy to manage, and social workers into factory workers. This way of thinking reminds us that the state has always had a hard time managing what we once called the “labor movement,” and what we now call the “social movement.”
