This paper explores the corporeal experience of ageing through research conducted with people in their fifties and sixties and those over seventy-five years old. First, it aims to establish the signs of ageing among ageing persons, and it distinguishes between three dimensions of the corporeal experience: the organic body, the appearance, and the energy, which are respectively relative to health, beauty, and form. Subsequently, it analyzes the practical and symbolic work that people operate on their body when they face the signs of ageing. Lastly, it uses the French theory of déprise to question the role of the body in the process in which ageing persons reorganize their lives through a series of adjustments, renunciations, and reconversions.
