Popularisé par le rapport Meadows paru en 1972, l’objectif de rupture avec la croissance économique – définition de la décroissance que nous retiendrons ici – a de tout temps fait l’objet de vives oppositions. Quelles sont les critiques qui lui ont été adressées ? En mobilisant le modèle des cités de Boltanski et Thévenot (1991), l’objectif de cet article est de recenser ces divers griefs, en exposant leurs origines, leur nature et les réponses dont ils ont fait l’objet. L’intérêt de ce travail est double. Il s’agit d’une part de mieux comprendre les critiques formulées. Popularized by the Meadows report published in 1972, the rupture with the objective of economic growth – which is the definition of degrowth that we adopt – has always been the subject of fierce opposition. What criticisms have been leveled at this project ? Using the economies of worth model developed by Boltanski and Thévenot (1991), the objective of this paper is to identify these criticisms by explaining their origins, their nature, and the responses that have been brought to each of them. The contribution of this paper is twofold. On the one hand, we aim to offer a better understanding of the criticisms that have been formulated. On the other hand, the objective is to better address these criticisms, by adapting the answers to the concerns that have been expressed.
