Populations, in the French Pacific territories, are shaked betwen « tradition » and « modernity » issues, one identified with the rural way of life, the other with the urban context. Because of historical differences, the place of half casts is envolved inside autochtonous identity in Tahiti, still outside in New Caledonia. Therefore, Tahiti presents a unified mixed society, New Caledonia is still a face to face situation, generating sometime tensions.
