This paper studies the role played by small urban centers in the structuration through market activity of their surrounding areas, at the same time probing their links with medium-sized cities as well as with the regional capital, Valencia. In the xvth century, the credit market turns out to be one of the main tools for integration and domination of small towns and boroughs in rural areas. What these relationships were, and how they changed over time, can be recaptured through the various forms of peasant credit.
