The evolving discourse of Fidel Castro (1959-2008): A periodization approach
Type de matériel :
51
Throughout his rule as the leader of Cuba, Fidel Castro used the power of words, delivering a large number of speeches whose statistical analysis using textometric methods provides an original means to study the Cuban revolution. In a first step, we apply these methods and compare the results of correspondence analysis (CA) and hierarchical agglomerative clustering (HAC) to divide the 50 years of Castro’s discourse into several distinct periods. In a second step, on the basis of this endogenous periodization obtained from the lexical characteristics of the corpus, we study the statistically characteristic vocabulary of each period to reveal how Castro’s discourse evolved from 1959 to 2008.
